In the end of 1951, FFD formed a football department called Divisão
Estadual de Profissionais (State Professional Division), the beggining
of the professional era in Rio de Janeiro state. The six founders of
DEP participated of it's championship in 1952. The championship was
decided by lost points.

Along the year of 1952, many clubs joined the professionalism and
inscribed in FFD. In august/1952, FFD decided to organize an extra
championship with the new inscribed clubs plus those which played
the first championship. The extra championship begun in october;
Fonseca, Esperança and Fluminense F.C. (from Vassouras) withdrew
from the championship due to reforms in their stadia.
