Rio de Janeiro State League (Campeonato Fluminense) 1954

The State Championship of 1954, as in 1953, was disputed only with
teams of the Vale do Paraíba region, but after the pression of clubs from
Niterói and Campos, was changed in the middle of the first turn by the
FFD, that decided that the 1954 State Championship was no more valid as
a state honour, but only as a Vale do Paraíba Championship. Coroados
Futebol Clube conquered the now Vale do Paraíba title, while Royal Sport
Club finished second.

The new State Championship of 1954 was going to be reorganized with the
same formula of 1953, involving the champions of Niterói, Campos and Vale
do Paraíba. However, FFD decided to include also the runner-ups of these
championships, causing the State Championship to be postponed.

Later, FFD found that it was impossible to organize dates to the championship,
and already in the end of 1955 announced the cancelling of the 1954 State
Championship without any games.

But in 1962 FFD turned back on this decision, and all championships of DEP
were again recognized as state championships. The championship disputed
between the champions of DEP and the Niterói and Campos city leagues became
an extra state tournament, called State Superchampionship.
